Stress Therapy

Are you feeling overwhelmed with everything that is going on in your life?

  • Are there specific tasks or responsibilities at work that consistently make you feel worried?

  • Have you been experiencing headaches, muscle tension or sleep disturbances, or other physical symptoms that are causing you stress?

  • Experiencing life situations or events that make you feel overwhelmed?

Stress is a natural and physiological response that occurs when you perceive a threat, challenge, or demand that exceeds your ability to cope with it effectively. This response triggers a cascade of physical, mental, and emotional reactions aimed at preparing the body to deal with the perceived stressor. These reactions can vary and may include increased heart rate, heightened alertness, muscle tension, and the release of stress hormones like cortisol.

We All Have Been
Through Stress

Experiencing stress in daily life is a common occurrence, as it can result from a wide range of factors and situations. Stress can have both positive and negative effects. In some cases, it can motivate individuals to take action and perform effectively under pressure (eustress). However, when stress becomes chronic or overwhelming, it can lead to a range of physical and psychological health problems, including anxiety, depression, cardiovascular issues, and other ailments. Case studies have shown that  48% of Canadians say they feel "really or seriously stressed" at least once a week, including 16% who say they feel really stressed "every day". While stress can be both good and bad, on average Canadians say 47%of the stress they face is of the bad variety.

Stress can be categorized into two main types:

  • Acute Stress: is a short-term stress that arises from specific events or situations. It can often disappear once the threat or challenge is resolved.

  • Chronic Stress: is a long-term, ongoing stress that persists over an extended period. It can result from continuous exposure to stressors, such as work-related pressures, relationship issues or financial problems.

Stress in Only Temporary

From the daily pressures of work and school to the challenges of personal relationships and various responsibilities that come with modern living, stress is an ever-present companion. It's a natural response to the demands and uncertainties we face, often serving as a motivational force that allows us to achieve our best.

The weight of stress, both acute and chronic, can take a toll on our mental and physical well-being, affecting our mood, health, and relationships. Understanding stress is the first step towards effectively managing it, fostering resilience, and seeking balance in our complex and demanding world.

No matter what is causing stress, know that stress is just a phase and it can be managed with help and the right tools to live a calmer life.

Taking Day by Day: Making the Decision to Heal

Overcoming or being able to manage stress levels is a common goal for many of us, as stress can have a negative impact on both physical and mental health.

Going to therapy is a powerful resource if you are seeking relief from stress. Therapy offers a safe and confidential space to explore the causes and manifestations of stress, helping you gain a deeper understanding of your emotional triggers and thought patterns. Consistency and patience are key, don't hesitate to seek help if you find it difficult to manage stress on your own.

With the help of a therapist you will be able to learn evidence-based strategies and coping techniques to manage stress effectively, often focusing on mindfulness, cognitive reframing, and relaxation exercises. The type of therapy that may be most effective for you can vary, so it's important to work with a therapist to determine the approach that suits your specific needs and preferences. Through psychotherapy sessions, you will foster self-awareness, empowerment to recognize and address stress as it arises to build long term resilience.
